Southern Train Services

After a short respite, beware of possible strikes and overtime bans on the railway system.

The RMT had a strike scheduled for next Tuesday but has now suspended that action.

However, from Thursday, June 1, ASLEF has instructed its drivers not to work overtime.

So do try to check your train is operating before trying to travel if you can.

The reasons behind these industrial actions was discussed at the recent MLAG Annual General Meeting (and throughout the last year or so in Rye News) – see previous reports.

Meanwhile, the Department for Transport has extended its consultation response time on the South Eastern Franchise from May 23 to June 30 because of the current purdah.

Responses on the Kent Area Route Study are still required by June 30 – we wait to hear whether that period will be extended. But I would suggest not delaying your response. To help your analysis, MLAG has arranged for one of the authors of the Study to make a presentation followed by a Q&A session – the meeting is at Rye Town Hall at 7pm (for 7:15pm) on Thursday June 15.
