Bapgpuss surrounded by anemones, Sooty and Sweep amongst a selection of protea and Bill and Ben – The Flowerpot Men – sitting on the church floor next to pots of gerbera were some of the highlights of this year’s Peasmarsh Flower Festival over the bank holiday weekend 23-25 May.
“I always wonder how the arrangers are going to interpret the theme each year,” said Deidre Bull who has been organising the show for 16 years. “This year it’s ‘100 years of television’ and it’s absolutely amazing what they have come up with. The displays bring back so many happy memories. People love coming here for a look.”

The show is a real community effort she said. “Everyone helps! We have a main meeting at the beginning of the year to decide what the theme is going to be and then everyone comes together. Southeast Flowers in Ashford take our order and deliver on Wednesday morning, they’re really good. Then on Thursday everyone come in and starts arranging.”

Rainbow, Dr Who and Gardener’s World were also featured in the very creative displays. As was Keeping Up Appearances, with a stunning table decoration in honour of Hyacinth Bucket’s Candlelight Supper.

The festival is the biggest fundraiser for the church of St Peter and St Paul in Peasmarsh, which was originally built in 1070. All the money raised goes towards church upkeep and maintenance.
