Rye 1sts secured a comfortable victory on Saturday 23 May, with a seven wicket win over St Peters. Rye made the long hot journey to Brighton to take on the newly promoted side. Rye skipper Harry Smeed won the toss and invited St Peters to bat. Rye soon made inroads into the innings as the new ball pair of Craig Pierce 3-49 and Cornel Swart 3-30 reduced St Peters to 76-6. Harry Craker with 33 offered resistance but 18 year old James Archer with 3-19 wrapped up the innings, leaving a target of 130 to win.

Despite the early loss of Harry Smeed, James Hamilton 43, Ben Browning 23 and Cornel Swart 47 not out, saw Rye past the target in 24.3 overs. This Saturday Rye host Bexhill at The Rye Cricket Salts, in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera.

The 2nds experienced a third loss, this time at home to Kerala Strikers 1sts. Rye are fielding a young side, and the inability to take catches is proving costly. On Saturday, seven spilled catches allowed Kerala Strikers to reach 234-6. Sreevalsan Gangadharan 97 and Jithin Thankachan 39 did the damage. Paul Hitchcott 2-23 the best of the Rye bowlers.

Rye’s response slipped to 4-2 but Rye recovered to post a respectable 186-8. Ellis Hatter 46, top scored and six others got scores above 18, showing the potential that is in the team. Kerala took two great catches to prove the point that catches win matches. This Saturday the 2nds face another first team as they travel to play Willingdon.

The Thirds had a free week last Saturday, and this week they host Robertsbridge 4ths at Icklesham.

U13 – V Tenterden

The Juniors have had a quiet week as the half term means no games. The U13s had a thrilling match last Thursday against Folkestone. Rye posted 109-9 off 20 overs, Charlie Cooke 41 NO the outstanding performance. Lucas Mahaffey with 12 offered him support. In reply Folkestone scrambled over the line by two wickets, in large part the number of 38 extras contributed to the loss. Still a good performance.

The Junior Section is very grateful for the long term Sponsorship of Rush, Witt & Wilson, our featured Sponsor this week.

Rush Witt & Wilson — proud to support Rye Cricket Club Juniors

We’re delighted to be sponsoring Rye Cricket Club Juniors again this season. Supporting the next generation of local players feels exactly the kind of thing a Rye business should be doing, and we can’t wait to see them out on the pitch.

You’ll find Rush Witt & Wilson at The Estate Offices, the handsome Victorian building right in the heart of Rye. From bijou town flats to country homes and coastal properties, we’ve been helping people move in and around Rye for many years and the sheer variety of homes on our books is one of the things we love most about working here.

Senior Partner Ralph Popple leads the Rye office, working alongside Jackie Polley and the wider team. Between them they bring an unrivalled depth of local knowledge across sales, new homes and residential lettings.

While Rye is very much our home, we’re part of a wider local network with sister branches in Northiam, Tenterden and Hastings. That means when a buyer is looking across the area or a seller’s home would appeal to someone in a neighbouring town, we can quietly tap into our colleagues’ contacts too. It’s a real advantage for our clients, and a lovely reminder that 1066 Country is a closely connected community at heart.

Whether you’re thinking of selling, letting, or simply curious what your home might be worth in today’s market, we’d be very glad to talk it through. Pop into The Estate Offices or give us a call on 01797 224000. And in the meantime, we wish the Rye Cricket Club Juniors the very best of luck for the season ahead.
