A taste of Honeysett

Martin Honeysett (1943 – 2015) was an artist who made his home, for many years, in Hastings and a recent rather lovely exhibition of his cartoons (it closed on January 8) was held at the Hastings Museum. He contributed to Punch, Private Eye and The Oldie, among many others.

This was certainly  a splendid way to cheer up the very miserable winter’s day of our visit. Not only were the cartoons very funny, but they were so well executed and demonstrated several different mediums and styles. As with all the best cartoonists, he was very observant and a bit irreverent . It was nice to be at an exhibition where all one could hear was the laughter of fellow visitors. This was a gem and well worth the visit. There are several collections of his work and particularly recommended is “Another Book of Old Photographs”.
