The Playden Weekend Art Exhibition takes place this weekend. There is a great line up of local well-known and internationally acclaimed artists who represent a wide range of talent and different mediums.  The children of St Michael’s School, Playden will also be exhibiting so there is something for everyone – exhibits include paintings, prints, textiles, ceramics, jewellery and glass.  Additionally there will be home-made refreshments available.

Among the comments about the exhibition last year were “Brilliant to see so many talented artists on display – hey where has my wife gone with my wallet?” and “Fabulous exhibition and great venue for a local art show I visit every year– I love the shingle spire”.

St Michael’s Church is a beautiful 12th century church that has wonderful, welcoming atmosphere – with a spire at the top of which is a cross, which can be seen from the Channel.  The church is mentioned in Simon Jenkins “England’s One Thousand Best Churches”.  The exhibition will help to raise important funds to repair this spire, which is wooden shingled – and if you look up when you come to the exhibition you will see holes in structure created by the woodpeckers  (both the Yaffle and Spotted Woodpecker) which are in abundance in Playden. This damage is taking its toll and the bill for repair is currently in excess of £100,000 and will undoubtedly increase. This is alongside other essential maintenance required for this special Grade 1 listed building.

The opening times for the exhibition are Friday May 6, 5 – 7pm  Saturday May 7, 10am – 5pm and Sunday May 8, 12 noon- 5pm. Please come and enjoy what promises to be an excellent exhibition in a special venue.
