Be a trustee of the arts festival

The 50th Rye Arts Festival has just finished. The current Covid-19 situation was always a background factor but despite that there has been much praise for the wide-ranging programme and an acknowledgement of the considerable work done by the volunteer force.

The festival is a charitable incorporated organisation run by trustees, endorsed by our members. Some of our trustees have given their contribution for a few years and, with many other calls on their time, feel it is appropriate to bow out, before the planning for next year begins.

The responsibilities for the governance of the festival are shared between the trustees and the organising committee. We are looking for new people to join the current body of trustees. The responsibility of trustees is to ensure the charity is governed in compliance with the law and that it remains solvent at all times. The trustees will agree with the festival director the guidelines and budget for each festival.

Of course, the role is much wider and the skills and background of individual trustees can enhance their contribution to the festival. Some of the skills we would be looking for include some knowledge of Rye, its cultural background and a history of the festival; flexibility of own time and a general interest and enthusiasm for the arts.

The festival has been a part of the town for 50 years. It does take time and energy to organise the events but being part of this process can be rewarding. If you are interested in joining us please contact me at linda.harland@ryeartsfestival.org.uk We will then send out more details. We look forward to hearing from you.
