Rye and District Camera Club, established in 1956, is holding its annual exhibition at St Mary’s Centre by the Kino cinema on Saturday and Sunday September 14 and 15 from 10.00am until 5pm. Around twenty members will be showing their pictures and there will also be competition-winning pictures from last season on show. Admission is free and there will be club members on hand to answer any questions you may have; there will also be cards and prints for sale and the chance to vote for your favourite picture on show.
Tony Ham, whose photos of the animals at Port Lympne Safari Park are amazing, as are his capturing of events in Rye, is a member of the club. His photos can be seen on Facebook and in Rye’s Own the monthly magazine, too.
He writes: “The club starts its new season on Monday September 9 in its new home at Iden Village Hall. Meetings are from 7.30pm to 10.00 pm every second Monday evening from September to April. Meetings vary with guest speakers, practical workshops and competitions. Members vary in experience from professional photographers to beginners just buying their first cameras.
“When I joined around ten years ago, I had just bought my first DSLR and had no idea about aperture, shutter speed and ISO, but members were happy to help with advice and tutorials. I gained so much confidence and love taking photos and seeing my progression.
Anybody who is unsure, because they have no experience, should come along, and meet the members and get all the help they should need. Members have varying interests and expertise so there is bound to be someone who could help.
“We also get to photograph local events like Rye Arts Festival which is a good chance to try different types of photography, photographing concerts in low light, street photography etc. I would highly recommend it to those who want to learn and achieve better results with their camera.”
Rye News will showcase other photographers after the show.
