The New Road Artists autumn exhibition, titled ‘Common Ground’, is set to captivate art enthusiasts from September 6 to 21, 2024, at Rye Creative Centre on New Road in Rye with a private viewing on Friday, September 6 between 5pm and 8pm. Curated by Rowena and Alex from ROSA Magazine, this event features a diverse range of fine art and craft forms, including painting, printmaking, photography, textiles, jewellery and sculpture.

The exhibition showcases the works of over 20 resident studio artists, offering an exploration of artistic talent in various media. With the theme ‘Common Ground’, the exhibition delves into the connections between artists and their shared creative experiences, presenting a range of perspectives united by a sense of community and place.

A highlight of the event will be the open studios weekend on September 20 and 21. During this time, visitors will have a unique opportunity to step inside the artists’ studios, meet the creators, and gain insight into their artistic processes and allows visitors to purchase original works directly from the artists, fostering a deeper connection between creators and the public.

Just a short five-minute walk from Rye’s town centre, the former school, now transformed into a beautiful and thriving creative hub for artists, makers, and performers, offers easy access for visitors. Additionally, the centre provides ample free parking for those arriving by car, making it a convenient destination for all.

Curator Rowena Easton said: “What became apparent during the time I spent at Rye Creative Centre is that a lively and enormously productive community has grown and flourished since 2009. Now established, it has local distinctiveness. I hope this exhibition adds to an understanding of that, because, with Rye Creative Centre at risk, it seems more important than ever to put on record what makes this place special.”

As manager of the creative centre I am thrilled with the exhibition. It reflects the diverse and dynamic talents of our resident artists. This show is an incredible opportunity for visitors to engage with the artists’ creative processes, explore a variety of artistic expressions, and discover unique works. With the addition of the open studios event we’re able to add an extra layer of connection, allowing people to step inside the studios and see where the magic happens.
