Unfortunately, two events featuring the writer Patrick Gale at the upcoming Rye Arts Festal have had to be cancelled due to the national rail strike.

The best-selling author, who lives in west Cornwall, doesn’t drive and travels by train. He was due to speak at Rye on Friday, September 16 at 3pm about his new book Mother’s Boy. He had also organised and was an integral panel member of the 11am event, Daring Beyond Her Sex, also on Friday, September 16, which has had to be cancelled.

The rail strike on September 15 and September 17 and other commitments in Cornwall have made his trip unfeasible.

Patrick and the Festival organisers apologise to everyone who has bought a ticket and explains his late decision was based on his hope that the rail strike would be called off.

Rye Arts Festival will fully reimburse ticket holders for both events, but suggests all fiction lovers might want to swap their tickets for the talk by award-winning novelist Claire Fuller who is speaking at 3pm on Sunday, September 18. Claire won the 2021 Costa Novel Award for her fourth book, Unsettled Ground.

Tickets for all the events are available online at www.ryeartsfestival.org.uk or via telephone on 01797 462168.
