Ticket sales for the 2023 Rye Arts Festival have started very briskly, with some headline events likely to sell out in the next week.

One of the most popular events has proven to be Baroness Brenda Hale, who opens the festival on the afternoon of Friday, September 15.

Lady Hale was the president of the Supreme Court and sprang to national prominence when she delivered the court’s unanimous ruling that prime minister Boris Johnson had illegally prorogued Parliament in 2019. Her diamante brooch caught the nation’s attention and gave the title to her autobiography – Spider Woman. Lady Hale was a judge and barrister and, in tandem, for many years an academic teaching law at Manchester University.

You’ll need to hurry to secure a ticket for her in conversation with Martin Bruce.
Ticket sales have also been fast for Michael Rosen, the author and BBC broadcaster, who will be talking about his life on Tuesday, September 26.

And, on another note, Errol Linton’s Blues Vibe has seen a big demand with a sell out fast approaching. Errol and his band play red hot blues and he wowed the Rye audience back in 2021, with his singing, harmonica playing and musicianship. A packed Rye Community Centre on Saturday, September 23 is going to be jumping, so if you don’t want to miss out, grab a ticket while you can!

The 52nd annual festival will run from 15 to 30 September, with a packed fortnight of events from across the whole spectrum of arts, and there are many other ticketed events on sale. You can take your pick from classical and folk music; drama; films; authors and speakers; historical walks and coach tours; exhibitions; and free street entertainment on the opening Sunday, September 17. And don’t forget there will be many other free events going on in town, with a highlight being the New Road Artists exhibition at the Rye Creative Centre from 1 to 24 September, as well as open studios on September 15 and September 16.
