Lamb House closes

Measures to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus have led to Lamb House, the National Trust property in West Street, Rye closing its doors. The same is true for nearby Sissinghurst whose last day open will be March 20. The grounds of Sissinghurst will remain open and it may be that Lamb House will open its garden as well.

Lamb House had recently been “re-dressed” for the spring visiting season. In the Oak Parlour (pictured above), the scene was set for an evening with Henry James, with card games, drinking and reading, while the Telephone Room was interpreted as if AC Benson (the brother of EF Benson and a regular visitor of James’) was working in there.
