Here’s something a bit different. Jesus Carveros loves Mexican wrestling and has started a group that meets on the beach at Camber every Tuesday morning at 6am. Yes 6am. Here’s why he’s encouraging more people to join him – and why it’s really about more than wrestling…
My name is Jesus Carveros.
I’m 67.
I take nothing for granted.
My life is mindful.
Spiritual.
Creative.
And meditative.
My personal goal is to seize and enjoy every moment.
To be grateful.
And to have fun.
Years ago I started wearing Mexican wrestlers masks.
And overalls.
And going to places dressed like this.
No one knew who I was.
Lots of people asked me questions.
Dressing as a Mexican wrestler is intriguing.
And engaging.
For me Mexican wrestling has nothing to do with wrestling.
It’s a way to escape.
So this is what I do.
I go to places wearing a Mexican wrestling mask.
And overalls.
As the world around us speeds up.
And goes crazy.
I’ve decided to slow down.
Not to rush.
Not to be busy.
To be present.
Not distracted.
This is easier said than done.
I spend as much time as I can in nature.
I like to feel sand beneath my feet.
I love paddling.
I roll my overalls’ legs up.
And paddle.
I do this very early in the morning.
When the beach is empty.
I feel the breeze.
And the water.
I close my eyes and listen to the waves.
And smell the salt.
I walk slowly.
Very slowly.
I’m in no rush.
This is relaxing.
And up lifting.
I breathe long deep breaths.
I savour every second.

Over the years friends have joined me.
We go to the beach together.
We wear Mexican wrestling masks.
And overalls.
And roll the legs up.
We walk slowly through the water.
We paddle.
No one talks.
There’s no chitter chatter.
Just friends enjoying this special moment.
It’s beautiful.
It brings us together.
We share the experience.
Sometimes there’s eight or ten of us.
Sometimes only a few.
How many doesn’t matter.
It’s the process that’s important.
The doing.
I thought it might be a good idea to share what we do.
To let other people know.
Because other people might want to join us.
To walk slowly through the water.
Wearing Mexican wrestling masks.
And overalls.
No shoes.
No talking.
Breathing.
Being.
It’s free.
And it’s fun.
It takes one hour.
Thirty minutes in one direction.
Thirty minutes back.
We start at 6 am.
And finish at 7.
