On June 16, the Rye Art Gallery, on the High Street invited interested people to a preview of an exhibition by the New Road Artists, whose studios are at the Creative Centre. They have formed a strong relationship over the years which has developed into a support network. The artists are a group of recent graduates and award winning individuals using a variety of creative genres producing works through photography, installations, painting, drawing and sculpture.

It is always a personal subjective choice but I particularly liked the oil painting “Morning in the Bakery”. It had a sort of reality for me, one could imagine being in the picture. There were other interesting works, abstracts (below, right) and the inventive ‘Wood Bunch of Knobs’ by Jenny Edbrooke (below, left).

Some of the artists were present and mingling. I spoke to Nick Archer as I loved one of his pictures. He lives and works in East Sussex, studied at the Royal Academy School in London. He has exhibited extensively in Europe and UK, in the National Portrait Gallery and Wandsworth Museum in London among others. His next big exhibition will be in Geneva, Switzerland.

The exhibition can be viewed till July 9  More information about the artists and the gallery can be found on the gallery’s website.
