Peter Firmin was an English artist and puppet maker, and was also the co-founder of Smallfilms with Oliver Postgate, animator, puppeteer and writer.

Between them, they created a number of very popular children’s TV programmes including The Saga of Noggin the Nog, Ivor the Engine, Bagpuss and Pogles’ Wood. The programmes were broadcast from the 1950’s to the 1980’s and in 1999 a BBC poll voted Bagpuss as the most popular children’s television programme of all time.

They were also the makers behind yet another hit TV series, The Clangers. You remember them, strange-shaped yet loveable creatures from their little blue planet who communicated with whistling sounds. Well, here’s your chance to re-live your youth and if your kids or grandkids have never heard of the Clangers you can enlighten them with a trip up to London over the festive season and into 2023.

Lightopia is hosting the ultimate winter light festival, set to welcome the family of loveable, pink, mouse-like creatures to London for the first time ever, inviting guests to “Feel the magic of Christmas” at London’s Crystal Palace Park from November 17-January 2, 2023.

The neon winter wonderland will showcase an immersive, multi-sensory interactive light installation for all the family to enjoy, as the award-winning winter light festival returns to the capital this winter.

The iconic family: Mother, Major, Tiny, Small and Granny Clanger, plus their friends the Soup Dragon and Iron Chicken will all appear in this glorious installation. Families will be able to see the iconic, kind-hearted characters, and their infamous friends at the spectacular, re-imagined neon-lit Clangers planet.

Bigger and brighter than ever this year, Lightopia will not only showcase immersive, multi-sensory interactive light and lantern installations but will also feature a spectacular 40-metre-wide and 15-metre-tall water show featuring a giant Santa, Rudolf, Christmas tree and snowflakes ready to transport you to a fantastical Christmas experience like no other!
