An exciting and innovative concert called Simply Divas is being produced by Sam Williams, musician and Events/Theatre Coordinator at Rye Creative Centre in the centre’s theatre on Thursday, November 24.

Join some wonderful vocalists and musicians  as they celebrate some of the most influential female voices of popular music and jazz including Fitzgerald, Lee, Springfield, Carpenter, Simone, Warwick, the artists of Motown and more. Featuring songs written by the likes of Gerswhin, Rodgers and Hart, Bacharach and David, Carole King, Smokey Robinson, and Dozier and Holland

Local musicians will also be joined by students from Rye Studio School and the ADAPT theatre group who will both be providing some numbers. With popular standards from the Burt Bacharach songbook, memories from Motown and jazz classics such as Summertime, Lullaby Of Birdland and My Baby Just Cares For Me, there really is something for everyone.

Sam Williams said: Simply Divas is a concert celebrating some of the most extraordinary female artists of the 20th century who became icons of popular music. Artists who used remarkable talents to create a legacy of not just great music, but liberation, empowerment and passion through a magnificent body of works. As we go along we shall look briefly at some background and what was happening in the world at the time to shape, influence and inspire the way music was created and distributed and of course celebrate the songs and composers that helped these ladies share their gifts, as we perform some of our own versions of these iconic numbers to celebrate their impact across generations.”

Tickets at £12 each will be available from Rye Creative Centre, from the ARRCC Charity shop in Cinque Ports Street or by calling the Box Office: 01797 229797 or alternatively 07799 771961 / 07939 390036
