The National Trust’s Lamb House holds many ghostly tales within its walls. The Georgian property’s current exhibition Ghost Written uncovers these haunted histories through the works of its former literary resident authors. From Henry James, who moved into the house while completing his best-known ghost story The Turn of the Screw in 1898, through to Rumer Godden, who experienced her own ghostly goings-on in the house up until she left in 1973.

On Thursday, July 17 Lamb House is hosting a symposium in connection with the Ghost
Written exhibition, uncovering further ghostly connections in the works of authors Henry
James, EF Benson, and Rumer Godden.

Exhibition curator Kirsty Mitchell and UCL Professor Philip Horne will be joined by experts
Professor Rachel Bowlby, Professor Ian Christie, and Professor Hazel Hutchison, all
specialising in Lamb House’s former resident authors.

This event gives ticket holders exclusive access to Lamb House and to the exhibition on a
day the house is usually closed to the public.

There will also be an optional group reading of The Saloon, a play based on Henry James’
short story Owen Wingrave after the symposium.

Tickets cost £12.50 each and can be purchased here or by visiting nationaltrust.org.uk/lambhouse
