Rye Arts Festival is one of the biggest and best multi-arts festivals not just in the South East but in the UK! While the organisers seek the best of local talent, artistes from around the world have also been booked to perform September 11-28.

Take the opening evening – Jali Bakary Konteh, from the Gambia, will be performing with his five-piece band at Rye Community Centre on the evening of Friday, September 12. Expect hot sounds from Africa from a traditional Kora player whose veins run with generations of musical blood.

On Saturday, September 13 the young Lithuanian classical pianist Gabriele Sutkute will be coming back to the festival for the third year in a row. She really is that good and she will not disappoint. If you’ve never been to a classical music concert before this is the one to choose!

On Friday, September 19 Rye Community Centre will be pulsing to the Cuba meets Colombia sounds of Indira Roman and her six-piece band Aji Pa’ Ti. This will be a scorching Latin American dance night to remember.

Goncalo Maia Caetano

The young Portuguese classical guitarist Goncalo Maia Caetano will be playing in the Tudor Room at the Mermaid Inn on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 24. He has already won many awards and played concerts around Europe, a concert of beautiful music is assured.

Also crossing the waters to entertain Rye are Angelina and JC Grimshaw who make a rare appearance away from their native Isle of Wight on Friday, September 26. They play blues, Hawaiian, jazz and folk music, as well as their own Vectis music, with both being masters of stringed instruments and voice.
