Succession Planting in the Mixed Border

Head Gardener Fergus Garrett will lead this Study Day held at Great Dixter House and Gardens. Refreshments and lunch are included and we are offering a 10% discount on plant sales for attendees in the nursery on the day.

Fergus will use the garden at Great Dixter to illustrate how you can create a long-season border using structural plants, underplanting and interplanting of bulbs, self-sowers, and pockets of ephemerals, climbers, and good maintenance. This intensive day will include slides, talks and discussion sessions in the garden.

Examining the garden in February gives you an opportunity to see the gaps within the borders and learn how to fill them. Doing this season by season is the best way to achieve long lasting and effective succession.
