A blast from the past

I was fortunate to work with the editor [Charles Harkness] for many years and we go back a long long way. It is so lovely to see that he has gone back to his first love, newspapers.

I learned so much from this man and when I and others decided to set up a small charity in the North East about nine years ago, who did I turn to for help – Charles. As usual he gave us his help freely and good advice. Eight years later we have grown and are now PMR & GCA UK North East Support, a registered charity.

There are a number of small groups throughout the country who enable people to meet up and support these two little known auto immune illnesses (Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis).

If any of the Rye News readers have either of these illnesses, there is now a national charity to which we are affiliated and if you want to find out anything about your illness, then just look for us on the internet.

I read Rye News and it reminds me of many happy hours I spent when on a visit many years ago.

Long may it continue and congratulations on a well run and informative newspaper.

Regards

M R Smith
