We have been pleased to get so many positive comments from visitors about the hive of activity around the Rye Harbour Discovery Centre since July’s photo above.
You might have noticed some scaffolding if you have visited recently, which is for the construction of a practical area, which will house refuse and recycling, as well as electrics, and it will eventually be clad with the locally-sourced, sweet chestnut cladding.
A Tuff Turf path, which is a revolutionary grass concrete system, has been laid down outside the Discovery Centre to enable access to the garden for wheelchair users and mobility scooters. Included with this work is the shingle placed under the building which it is hoped will become the home for many of the special, sometimes rare, plant species.
Inside, the final decorations are being completed, including the big pillars near the windows, and we are delighted with the elegant grey colour.
I’ve been taking the Baxall construction team regular supplies of doughnuts to keep them going and they will, of course, be taking a break over the Christmas period, and Sussex Wildlife Trust would like to thank them for their cheerful, hard work in this challenging year, working towards the completion of the Discovery Centre, which we hope will open in April 2021.
We wish them, and all of you, a very happy Christmas – and we’d like to thank everyone so much for their interest, patience and support.
