On Saturday, May 31 Winchelsea hosted an Open Gardens event for St Michael’s Hospice. This takes place each year and is always very popular. The weather was kind and the town of Winchelsea was buzzing with people eager to explore the beautiful, often hidden gardens, while supporting hospice care. The gardens were lovely with people lingering in quiet corners and breathing in the tranquillity they offered.

Angie Watson, community and events fundraiser for St Michael’s Hospice, was delighted to see so many supporters out in force visiting the Open Gardens event on Saturday. “With over five hundred visitors, beautiful sunshine and stunning gardens, it was an absolutely incredible day. We would like to sincerely thank the garden owners for their generosity in allowing our visitors access to their gorgeous gardens; our volunteers for their unwavering hard work; ‘Glashin’ for their wonderful folk music; and the supporters who came out in their droves to visit and enjoy the event. Special thanks go to Peter Cosstick, the Right Worshipful Mayor of Winchelsea, the Corporation of Winchelsea Charity, The National Trust and St Thomas’s Church for all their help.”
These photos tell the story better than words. I was lucky to meet Jeff Grice taking photos as he went from garden to garden and he shared a few with Rye News.
