Icklesham Parish consists of three wards, Icklesham, Rye Harbour (incorporating Winchelsea Beach) and Winchelsea and on Friday, May 30, it held its annual AGM at Rye Harbour Village Hall.
The meeting was a great success, bringing together councillors and community residents to hear of the council’s past year’s achievements which had been many.

Attendees also had the chance to see presentations from East Sussex County Council leader Keith Glazier regarding the upcoming plans for devolution and local government reorganisation; and Philip Merricks MBE regarding the recent archaeological works he has organised in Icklesham with input from the University of Birmingham. It was interesting to hear about the Roman connection and the finds from the dig. Philip is preparing an article for Rye News which will be most enlightening and informative.
Community awards were handed to residents who have gone above and beyond for the local community and our visitors over the last year. Awards were given to John Mills, Marc Bourne, Ian Leroy-Lewis, Richard Tollett, Martin Sands, Mark and Jane Taylor, Stuart Baker, David Page, Danny Williams, Martin Bruce and myself.
The meeting was followed by light refreshments which gave councillors the chance to meet and chat with members of the local community.
The chair of Icklesham Parish Council summed it up: “A big thank you to our speakers, Councillors and everybody who attended the meeting: it was great to catch up with everyone.”
