Cricket season comes to a close

The cricket season has finished and it’s time to pack away the cricket kit, at least until winter training starts.

Rye Cricket Club will look back on a busy season on and off the cricket pitch with the annual club dinner / awards evening on Friday, September 27 where we will be having drinks at the Ship Inn before eating at Simply Italian. Spaces available, please get in touch with menu choices to Martin Blincow blincsfamily@aol.com.

While the cricket has finished until May 2025, it is well documented that Rother Council will cease to maintain the cricket square from next season. The cricket club has already started preparation and maintenance work but wants to permanently take on upkeep of the cricket areas and is in advanced discussions with Rother council over the terms of this agreement.

We are passionate about providing the local community with the continued opportunity to play cricket as we enter our 271st year! We offer coaching from under 11s upwards, operate taster cricket sessions in Rye schools and junior / adult coaching from February and throughout the summer months. Over 100 children a week participate in cricket activities and we have three adult teams on a Saturday but taking responsibility for maintaining the cricket areas will put significant pressure on the club’s finances as we move into 2025.

The club has benefited from a crucial increase in sponsorship this year working with new partners like Skinners (shirt sponsors), the George In Rye (wicket sponsors), Rye Bay Fitness, Armour Flooring, Marino’s, Charles Palmer, Chandlers Roofing, Parkers Building Supplies, Sussex Plumbing Supplies, Johnson’s Fruiterers, Khanz Indian Restaurant, The Ship Inn and Jackie’s News.

We would like to thank our new sponsors and we look forward to partnering with them again in 2025 as well as recognising the continued support from local firms such as Jempson’s, Bournes and Diamond Koz.

This support is greatly appreciated and allows us to offer those cricket activities to the community.

But going forward there is more we need to do, so if you are a local business or individual who would like to find out more about how you can support your cricket club as we move into the 2025 season please contact our fundraising manager Grahame Burton on grahameburton@hotmail.com.
