A team of East Sussex over 60s football players founded by a Pett Level man are the new national champions, after beating Worcestershire 2-0 in the final on Sunday 19 April.

The squad, made up of former county footballers with one or two ex-professional and semi-professional players, was founded by Dave Tasker.

“I moved to Pett Level in 2021,” he said. “There was nowhere for men of my age to play competitive running football. There are plenty of walking football teams, which are brilliant, but I wanted more.”

The championship win comes at the end of only the second season playing at national level for the team. “A truly great achievement,” said captain Andy Williams. “Most of our opponents are ex-pros and semi-pros and we performed very well to overcome them. It was a tough competitive game against Worcestershire and, in recognition of his priceless contribution as our team founder, Dave Tasker was provided a moment or two of pitch time.”

He said East Sussex Over 60s was looking to add to its 35 strong squad. “We are not standing still and want to grow stronger and win the cup again. We are looking for fit, quality footballers of 59 and over, who live in East Sussex.”

The best way for potential players to contact the team is either to call/text Andy Williams on 0787 668 6491 or email or via the website at www.eastsussexover60s.co.uk
