ESCC consults on electric cars

East Sussex County Council (ESCC) and the borough councils of Wealden, Hastings, Eastbourne, Lewes and Rother, are seeking your views on the development of electric vehicle charge points in the area.

Views are being sought from both current electric vehicle drivers, people considering purchasing an electric vehicle in the future and those who know that they would not wish to switch to an electric vehicle. The consultation is to help the local authorities assess current demand as well as likely demand in the near future to help them decide on the type and location of any potential future charging infrastructure.

As part of the survey they would also like to know where you think charging points are needed, such as in local authority car parks like Gibbets Marsh in Rye.

Wealden District Council is undertaking this survey on behalf of the other local authorities and the data you provide will be shared among them all.

The survey takes around five minutes to complete and can be found here.

The closing date to respond is November 18.

  1. I would like to see Electric Vehicle charging points in all petrol stations. If BP gets it way for a petrol station in Rye, perhaps there should be a stipulation that they install EV charging points. Many supermarkets have EV charging points so how about Jempsons?

  2. Hello Brian,
You raise a very good point – to cut to the chase we have quotations for charging points to be put into 3 of our carparks, but we are at present hesitant as all providers want 10-15 year contracts and solus supply. As you know technology is changing so quickly we a loathe to make a move with any of these providers until we are clear what type of charging is the preference (ie fast charge (10 mins), mobile charging, slow charging (very economic but will customers want to wait 30 minutes…etc etc ) I’d be quite happy to chat through the options we have, if you have a few minutes some time.
    Kind regards Stephen Jempson
