A dozen yachts from French ports arrived at Strand Quay on Friday May 26. They came from Le Crotoy, Etaples, St Valerie sur Somme and Le Hourdel, according to our correspondents, John and Liz Royle.

John told me that he had known one of them, Alain Durand, commodore of Le Hourdel yacht club for 25 years, since he had been commodore of the Rye Harbour Sailing Club. “It is a relatively rare occurrence in recent years to see such a flotilla from France”, he said.

I spoke in my rather halting French to Philippe Taquet who was just emerging from his yacht to explore the town. They would be leaving on the ebb tide, Saturday. Thank you to John and Liz Royle for alerting us to this visit.
