Over the last two Wednesdays the Rye Hospitality Guild has welcomed over 20 students from the East Sussex College Hospitality and Catering Course. They have enjoyed visits to the Landgate Bistro, the Waterworks, the Ship Inn, the Tuscan and the Mermaid Inn.

They had the opportunity to look behind the scenes of Rye’s successful hospitality industry, understand the importance of customer focused service, the ever growing importance of connecting online with customers, and the importance of employability skills.

The next step is to offer industry placements to provide the first steps on a pathway to employment in the hospitality industry. Placements are for a total of 30 hours, and contribute to the students’ assessments. These will commence in the New Year.

If you would like to support the Rye Hospitality Guild or would like to find out more about what it offers, please contact mermaidinnadmin@btconnect.com.

Since the visit, the Guild has received the following from Hastings College,

“Well, I can honestly say that was an extremely good and well delivered employability trip. I learnt loads too !
“All students came back with loads of information and most importantly a real understanding of areas of the industry (and quirkiness of  some!).
“The visits to The Tuscan, Landgate Bistro and Waterworks surpassed expectations.
It was great for the students to see that their chosen studies directly relate to the real world and the ‘characters’ that they met valued what they were studying.
So again a great thanks from us.”
