Rye’s Methodist church has been sold.
The news comes four years after the congregation moved to other premises after an inspection found that substantial costs would be involved in refurbishing the building.
Details of the sale remain unclear, although one informed source suggests the sale price may have been in excess of £600,000. While it has not been revealed who has purchased the property, another source believes the church is likely to be converted to residential use as one house. However, given the lack of firm information, these details remain speculative.
Estate agents Dyer & Hobbis confirmed the church was sold in mid-October but declined to reveal any other facts.

The Methodist church at 19 Church Square was built in 1903 and originally used as a Sunday school. The congregation moved there in 1954 after their chapel was bombed in the Second World War.
Revd Ian Couchman has recently taken over as new superintendent minister of the Hastings, Bexhill and Rye circuit — replacing Revd Philip Wagstaff, who has retired.
