Nature Reserve road closes

Sussex Wildlife Trust is pleased to report that Baxall are progressing well with digging the  service trench for the new Rye Harbour Discovery Centre (shown above) and would like to thank visitors for their patience and understanding whilst access is limited to the nature reserve.

We would like to make the public aware that, from September 1 for what is expected to be a fortnight, the short section of the road next to the Discovery Centre will be entirely closed due to essential works relating to the centre. Because of the nature of these works, this closure is crucial for the safety of construction staff and the public.

For that period of time, the only way to access the sea from Rye Harbour village (and vice versa) will be to take the path along the bank next to the information cabins, or through the holiday park.

This is a significant diversion and, because of the loose surface, the path is not fully accessible for mobility scooters or buggies. We ask that all cyclists take alternative routes where possible, or dismount when passing people along this path diversion. The diversion will be signposted. Alternative access arrangements have been made for the coastguard and the emergency services.

Access will be restored as soon as it is safe to do so, and we will be issuing regular updates on social media and on our website.
