Marsh assault charge

Charges have been brought against a suspected offender following a serious assault on Romney Marsh. Kent Police were alerted to an incident at Brenzett Green shortly after 9am on Monday 17 November.

Following a dispute, which involved a small group of people that were known to each other, a man was reported to have been assaulted. Two men were taken to hospital – one was treated for injuries consistent with stab wounds and was later discharged. The other remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Five men from the local area were arrested in connection with the incident.

On Wednesday 19 November, 18-year-old Arry Burgess from Paddock View in Brenzett, was charged with malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of a knife in a public place and a public order offence. He was remanded in custody to appear before Margate Magistrates’ Court later that day. A detainee remains in custody and three were bailed with conditions while enquiries continue.

Leaf busters

Cleaning the rail lines through Rye

A special fleet of trains continues to treat rail lines for leaf fall. Wet leaves, crushed by passing trains, create a slippery Teflon-like surface on the rails. It’s similar to black ice and makes it harder for trains to accelerate and brake.

Running around the clock to and from the Horsham and Tonbridge depots, the special trains will run until mid-December to keep tracks clean. They use high pressure water jets to blast leaves off the lines and, where necessary, apply a sand-like gel to help trains grip the rail better.

Drones are also being deployed to aerially inspect the railway and reduce the need for line closures while high-definition video cameras mounted onto the front of trains – known as Automated Intelligent Video Review (AIVR) – capture high-definition images and video to help identify track that need extra attention.

  1. If you’re going to supply class A drugs at Lewes Crown Court, I’m not surprised you’re getting trouble. Or am I missing something here?
