Santé … it’s English Wine Week from June 21 to 29 2025. Organised by WinesGB, the goal is to encourage you to make the switch and drink English wine. They suggest that you visit a vineyard as part of a day out, celebrate a special occasion with a local wine, pair English wine with your Friday fish and chips. Create new traditions with English wine!

We asked around to see what some of our local vineyards will be doing to celebrate the week:

Chapel Down

We will be running a Discover English Wine Week when anyone can come and try a free flight of any our award winning wines featuring our unique Discovery range. A wine flight consists of three samples and will be limited to one per person. We will also have a Discovery Day on the June 29 when we will be running three tutored tasting sessions of five wines for £30 to launch our new vintages of Albariño , Orange Bacchus, Pinot Blanc , Bacchus and Chardonnay.

Charles Palmer Vineyards

Charles Palmer Vineyards is a family run single estate located in Winchelsea. This friendly and passionate team is made up of four family members and two neighbours. We run 14 wine tastings per week in our cosy cellar door, including wine and cheese pairings. All wine tastings now include a tour of the new Winery. Our charming onsite accommodation, Wickham Manor, was built in 1580 and can be found in both Mr Holmes and The Crown on Netflix. It gives you all the feels for Old England with views of the sea and farmland.

We have an exciting schedule for English Wine week this year.

Wednesday, June 25 – Alice Griffiths “Posing with Alcohol” will be visiting as part of her 100 vineyards challenge.

Thursday, June 26 –  Chantal will be at Rye Fine Wines with wine samples between 6pm and 7.30pm.

Friday, June 27 – Robert will be offering wine samples at Rye Chocolates between 12.30pm and 3pm.

Saturday, June 28 –  Our Cellar Door will be open until 9pm with live acoustic music.

Conveniently Charles Palmer Vineyards is situated just 4 miles from Rye, which is a 10 minute journey via car or taxi. If you’d prefer to visit via foot, you can reach it via the 1066 footpath for a scenic route.

Oxney Organic Estate

Oxney Organic Estate is located down a lane in Beckley. Starting in 2012 they grow vines and make wine on a gorgeous spot – an idyllic piece of our Sussex countryside. During English Wine Week you can drop by for a Wineflight (any day apart from Sunday and Monday) or on a Saturday join an organised tour and tasting, even with lunch in a beautiful picnic hamper full of local produce. To enjoy a Wineflight you don’t need to book but keep in mind opening hours between 9 and 4.30. To join a tour book online on www.oxneyestate.com.

Tillingham

We have 3 offers on to celebrate English Wine Week:
1. A hotel stay at Tillingham with a bottle of our latest Vintage to take home. Offer here
2. A mini Wine flight on the bar where you can try the latest Vintage. Just £15 for 3 glasses (wines listed below).
3. A special offer on our sparkling wine in our online store which includes our Col Fondo pink and white, plus the Pet Nat (our customers favourite!)
New wines on the Wine Flight available on the bar:
Endgrain
Primarily a blend of Muller Thurgau and Auxerrois, the remainder is a combination of Faberrebe, Huxelrebe, Ortega, Pinot Noir and Bacchus. Fresh citrus aromatics of lime and elderflower blossom, with a gentle stony minerality. The palate offers focussed acidity, white stone fruit and a gentle grip from the Ortega fermented in clay – our Georgian qvevri.
Rose
Pinot noir with a touch of Dornfelder, Auxerrois, Bacchus and Ortega, all fermented in stainless steel to retain freshness. A nose of delicate fruit and floral aromatics, while the palate has a lovely balance of tart red berries, crunchy peach and unripe melon. A classic, crisp and refreshing rose.
R
A perpetual blend spanning multiple vintages, this wine is predominantly Gamay, a little Pineau d’Aunis and a tiny portion of Rondo. On the nose, the wine has smoky raspberry and cherry fruit, with a floral, pink pepper quality. Whole-bunch fermentation gives the wine a rounded, juicy palate before finishing with gentle chalky tannins and mouth-watering acidity.
