The opening Rye LTC grass court tournament took place on Sunday, May 25 in brilliant sunshine. The courts were in immaculate condition and thanks go to the club’s groundsman, Adam Stunt, for preparing them to such a high standard.
It was good to see so many members at the event. There was a record turnout of 46 players, both members and guests, who were organised into four groups. Play within each group was on a round-robin basis and there were some keenly fought games with everyone enjoying the grass.
The group winners were Vicki Lowe and Mark Edwards, Jackie Morgan and Bob Thomson, Rosemary Meynell and Mark Harris, and Fiona White and Jane Willing. The group winners were presented with a much-prized Rye Lawn Tennis Club cap and a trophy, with the inflatable trophy proving particularly popular!

Some keen members also took to the croquet lawn on Sunday. Experienced players Keith and Diana Ford and Catty Bingham were on hand to offer instruction and encouragement and we hope to see many more using the lawn over the summer. Contact Claire on 07768 288 459 for further details.
Following the tournament and the croquet, many players adjourned to the bar, which did a roaring trade.
The previous day also saw success for the Rye ladies team, who won their Sussex League match against Amherst 2 from Hastings 4-0! Many thanks to Mel Baynton-Perret, Claire Myatt, Kate Bearcroft and Heather Mott.
Everyone is looking forward to a summer of grass court tennis on Rye’s magnificent grass courts. Guests are welcome. For details of future events at the club, visit https://ryelawntennisclub.org.uk/events/
