Following another successful year, the Rye Ancient Trails race returns next Sunday, September 11. The multi-terrain race winds its way through a choice of 30K or 15K routes across the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in East Sussex.
Starting and finishing in historic Rye town centre, this challenging circular course sends runners through ancient woodland and farmland on trails, footpaths, and quiet country lanes, linking the Norman churches of Rye, Iden, Beckley, Northiam, and Peasmarsh – a true steeplechase.
The undulating multi-terrain route includes 1,500ft of climb, with numerous gates and stiles to be negotiated. The stunning views from much of the course will probably go unnoticed by runners as they gallantly pursue personal bests and fulfil their sponsorship commitments for charity.
The race, organised by Nice Work, raises money for the Oliver Curd Trust, and attracts runners of all abilities, from experienced athletes to those new to running. The Oliver Curd Trust provides holiday accommodation to families affected by childhood cancer and other life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.
Nice Work is a long-established family business, which started in 1989 and has grown to become one of the country’s leading race management companies. Their race portfolio now features in excess of 240 races nationwide.
With an entry limit of 500, there are trophies available for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female, veteran categories aged 40-75 (male) and 35-70 (females), and 1st male and female affiliated team (three to count). Medals will be on offer for all finishers.
