An up and down season continued on Saturday as Rye claimed their seventh win of the season with a 4 wicket victory over Glynde and Beddingham at the Salts, in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. Rye skipper James Hamilton lost the toss and Rye found themselves being asked to take the field.

Glynde got off to an excellent start as Alex Thornhill and Edward Murray posted 57 for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed by Harry Smeed for 20. Skipper Robert Mouland (22) then joined Thornhill as they took the score along to 98 before he fell victim to George Wathen (1 for 29). 98 for 2 then became 98 for 3 as Smeed removed Archie Burrows for a duck to a well held catch by Mickey Toomey.

At this juncture, due to the slow pace of the Glynde innings some considerable pressure was placed on the new players coming to the crease, and as a consequence a procession of wickets fell as the need to score runs became paramount. 98 for 3 became 128 for 5 as Thornhill succumbed to Fin Thomson for a well-made 48 from 123 deliveries as the need to push on with the scoring rate became evident.

Thomson, in combination with Smeed ripped the heart out of the Glynde middle/lower order as Glynde ended up being dismissed for a slightly below par 176. Thomson put in a season best performance picking up 5 for 33 with Smeed finishing with 4 for 54, an excellent display from the two spinners.

Rye got off to steady start as Dan Seabrook and George Wathen posted 20 for the first wicket before Will Burton-Durham dismissed Wathen for 8. A mini collapse then came about as Nel (0), Seabrook (21) and Thomson (9) were dismissed to leave Rye 54 for 4.

Harry Smeed then joined Rye skipper James Hamilton at the crease as the pair went about trying to repair the damage. Both players settled in playing in a watchful manner and pouncing on any loose deliveries. Hamilton passed fifty as the pair added 96 for the 5th wicket before Smeed unluckily fell to the an excellent catch by the wicket keeper down the leg side off the bowling of Burton-Durham (3 for 48) for a well made 45 from only 44 balls.

150 for 5 then became 157 for 6 as Mickey Toomey (6) came and went. However, Hamilton found able support from Spencer Fielding as the pair saw Rye over the line with 4 wickets to spare. Hamilton finished with 65 not out including 9 fours and 2 sixes whilst Fielding ended up with 7 not out in a partnership of 21 for the seventh wicket.

Rye 2nd XI 189-8, Glynde 2nd XI 209

Rye 2nd XI ended their season’s travels with a game at Glynde, and put together a promising performance. Losing the toss yet again, Rye bowled first. Glynde went off like a rocket as Adam Maclean Brown hit 31 off 20 balls before he became one of Ollie Rhys-Jones 2 early wickets. Glynde built on the positive start and moved to 181- 4 as Derren Howard hit 42 and Leigh Reed hit 54. Martin Blincow removed both (2-26), and then Ross Pierce took 4-36, and soon Glynde were all out for 209, with 5 wickets falling for 5 runs. If only early chances had been taken, and if Lady Luck had not maintained her season long sojourn from the side of the 2nd Xl.

Rye got off to a positive start, as Ed Jury hit 36, but his dismissal saw Rye slip into the doldrums. Ollie Rhys Jones hit a lovely 38 and Martin Duffield 50. The pace was too slow and Rye did not threaten. Ross Pierce hit an unbeaten 37, and despite a late flurry, Rye drew, ending 21 runs short of victory.
Rye 3rd XI 227-6, Crowhurst Park 4th XI 233-4

Rye third team hosted Crowhurst Park fourths for their final game o the 2016 season in division 12 of the East Sussex Cricket League. On
winning the toss the visitors elected to field first.

Rye got off to a good start with an opening partnership of 95 before Peter Smulders was caught off the bowling of Henry Durtnall having
scored 37. Oscar Goodsell (47) was also caught off the bowling of Durtnall soon after, as he finished with figures of 2-33. Luke Payton
then looked to steady the innings and punish any wayward balls before he was caught off the bowling of Kallum Beale (1-31) having scored 45. Ollie Constable (2-46) and Dhanush Thiagaraj (1-38) took wickets in the middle order before a sixth wicket partnership of 60 between siblings Ole and Elise Jorgensen saw Rye to the end of their allotted overs as they finished on 28 not out and 23 not out respectively.

Rye got a wicket early on in reply as Max Goodsell (1-44) bowled Rob Whitehouse (18), a second wicket partnership then steadied the innings and increased the scoring rate before Henry Durtnall (65) was caught off the bowling of Ole Jorgensen (1-57). Dhanush Thiagaraj was caught off the bowling of Elise Jorgensen (1-36) having scored 73. Matthew Constable finished on 46 not out as Crowhurst Park reached their target with 8 overs to spare.
