Last Saturday, both the 1st team and the 2nd team were involved in exciting nail-biting games, but sadly both ended on the wrong side of the result.

The 1st team hosted Little Common Ramblers at the Rye Cricket Salts in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. Rye batted first and crawled to 154-8 off their 45 overs. A combination of good bowling, especially Ramblers overseas player Renay Meadows with 0-13 off 9 overs. Jack Harvey 3-29 the most successful bowler. For Rye Luke Payton 31 top scored but batsmen got in but couldn’t kick on.

Little Common equally found batting a challenge. At 62-2 they were looking good, but Rye through skipper Harry Smeed 4-25 and Luke Payton 2-32 reduced Ramblers to 114-8. The game was in the balance, but Renay Meadows 21 not out steered Ramblers to a win.

This Saturday, Rye 1sts travel to play Glynde 1sts. The 2nds last Saturday made the same journey to play Glynde 2nds. Glynde batted first and got off to a positive start reaching 106-1, with Harvey Otto taking the wicket and 1-31 off 8 overs. Then Martin Blincow took 4-43 and Glynde were wobbling at 145-5, but Matt Cramp was dropped on 0, he then hit 100 not out including 23 off the last over as Glynde amassed 266-5 off 40 overs. Rye went out to make the most of a good batting track and a short boundary. Spencer Fielding 39 and Ellis Hatter 100 hit 50 off the first 5 overs. Once Spencer was dismissed Will Wheeler 31 kept the runs flowing. With 60 required off 7 the wheels came off as Rye lost wickets and the runs dried up, as the 2nds lost by 32 runs. If two catches had been taken it would have been a different outcome.

This Saturday, Rye host Little Common Ramblers 2nds in a match sponsored by the Mermaid Inn.

The junior season is underway with promising performances. Last Thursday the U13s beat Ashford B by 7 wickets. Ashford were restricted to 71-5 off 20 overs. Rye knocked off the total in the 7th over. A good team performance as all 10 outfield players bowled two overs each.

The U11a defeated Egerton on Monday by 56 runs. A game played in the pairs format with Noah Sturgeon taking 3 wickets all bowled, and Luke Rogers 26 and George Smith 18 sharing a 44 run partnership in 4 overs.

Under1 1B team take on Gt Chart

The U11b played at Great Chart U11a, with half the team enjoying their first hard ball game. It was a really enjoyable evening. Special mention to Fergus Cooke with 21 runs, a run out and a catch.

On Tuesday, an 8 man U16 team played an 11 strong Tenterden side. School cricket matches / football trials / school trips all affected availability. However Rye posted 176-4 in 20 overs. Lexy Tuddenham 50 retired, Oscar Wincot-Stone 43 and Nathan Paine 22. In reply Tenterden were dismissed for 146 in the 20th over. Everyone of the 7 outfield players bowled. Oscar Wincott-Stone 3-17 and Lexy Tuddenham 4-13, completed an All Round Performance.

Next Monday, the U11a host Wye A, the U11b travel to Boughton. On Tuesday the U16 also travel to Boughton, whilst the U13s have a free week.
