Students debate school life

Town councillors Andy Rivett and Rebekah Gilbert have been working with Rye College students over the past year and most recently with the debating group and, so that they can learn about civic engagement, we have invited them to hold their group in the Town Hall chamber on Tuesday March 21 from 3:40pm-4:40pm.

The learning outcomes will include: drafting an agenda, election of a chairman and clerk, and a discussion of two or three issues regarding school life. This will hopefully aid their chairing, listening and negotiating skills and help them to get a feel for public speaking in a chamber.

The students (there should be about seven aged between 15 and 16) need an audience and the event is open to those who would like to come and listen and thereby provide the atmosphere for their first effort at public speaking.
