The rave that never was

An injunction from Folkestone and Hythe District Council and the firm stance taken by Rother District Council, spoilt a planned rave on the beach last weekend.

Social media posts advertising a “beach cookout” at a secret beach location, with tickets costing up to £25, were being sold by Croydon event organiser Flavour Boss Jerk Centre, a take-away Caribbean food venue in Lower Addiscombe Road.

Both Camber Sands and Greatstone beaches were on the agenda as possible secret beach locations, but the prompt action from both councils foiled the party.

Instead, event organisers sent their coaches to Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, only to face a large police presence and a dispersal order in place to stop any massed party. It is understood that three arrests were made by Essex Police and equipment was seized in relation to a planned music event.

An unlicensed mass beach cookout at Greatstone beach in 2020 resulted in altercations, four police officers injured and piles of litter and debris left strewn across the beach, which local residents were left to clear up.
