Rye Chamber of Commerce had a hotline to the weather gods as Wednesday, June 18 was full of warmth and sunshine as happy members mingled and networked over chilled drinks at the annual summer social. Rye Lawn Tennis Club was a perfect venue and Kyle from Tatner’s Street Kitchen served up delicious wraps from their van.

The chamber’s Jane Brook and Sarah Broadbent had organised some interesting presentations. Sue McGeown spoke on behalf of Rye BID (business improvement district) to update on the extensive consultation and engagement phase currently underway. Nearly three hundred eligible businesses across the proposed area are being asked about the improvements they would like to see which would benefit the town. The consultation will determine whether becoming a BID could be the means of managing, delivering and paying for those improvements.

Fred Thomas from ESCC spoke to us about the Growth Hub and gave some useful advice to members.
Natasha Robinson from Rye News explained that the paper is entirely run by volunteers and it is always looking for more people to keep it thriving. She proudly reminded people that it had celebrated its tenth year and was going from strength to strength. She spoke with passion about social media and how it keeps the paper in the forefront of people’s minds. If you want to contribute, please contact the paper via info@ryenews.org and have a chat.

The Rye Pirates and Smugglers, Zoe and Matt, appealed to the businesses of Rye to help sponsor Rye Pirate Day on Saturday, August 9. It will be colourful and there will be lots to do for a day out with the family.
Finally there was a short presentation, given by Sally Watson, a member of the executive committee, about the Rye Lawn Tennis Club and all the different aspects that people can get involved in.
Natasha presented this reporter with a beautiful bouquet of flowers to mark a significant birthday. Thank you, Rye News, for your generosity.
In all it was a fun evening and new connections were forged and friendships made.
A big thank you to Jane, Sarah and Elise from Rye Chamber of Commerce not only for organising this lovely event but for all the work that goes on behind the scenes for all the businesses in Rye who are members. If you are not a member you are certainly missing out on many levels. https://www.ryechamber.org/
