Back on the mend

Just to remind anyone interested with damaged items, Rye Repair Café, after taking August off to regroup, is back on September 13 and every second Saturday of the month, except December. We are open from 10am to midday, at the Rye Community Centre. We have several electricians, one or two sewers, someone to sharpen items and someone to look at your bike if it needs attention. Bring what has been hanging around unused because it has broken but has not been thrown out. If something cannot be fixed, the volunteers are happy to give advice about whether it needs a new part or can advise if it really is ready for the landfill.

Three of our core group went to the pub recently to support electrician volunteer Stephen Cowles, who was singing the blues. He has a good voice and repertoire, so do check him out on Facebook.

Rye Repair Café would like to thank all the visitors, and volunteers who have been a constant since we started, as both have made this a success for everyone. It is a free community effort but donations are welcome which helps to pay the rent for the community centre while we are there and other expenses that have occurred, such as the initial outlay for equipment.

  1. Also to add this Saturday 13th we have a guest in the foyer – Michael Wachter who worked as head gardener at Great Dixter with samples of foraged produce for you to try. Maggie will be advising on plant care, identifying plants and their diseases (bring a sample in bag)and Sue will be repairing clocks, watches and jewellery.
