Rye & District Camera Club held its 30th annual print exhibition at St Mary’s Centre in Lion Street, Rye on September 22 and 23.

18 photographers took part and on display were 92 mounted prints with a great variety of subject matter.

Despite the appalling weather more than 250 visitors came to view our work and many took advantage of the refreshments on offer whilst they admired the photographs on display. Many of the prints were for sale and a few visitors were quick to snap up a favourite image. One couple on their wedding anniversary were looking for a memento of their weekend in Rye and found just what they were looking for in a snowy image of Church Square at night lit by the street lights.

Whilst many of the images on display had been captured fairly locally some of our photographers had travelled far and wide to capture some of their pictures, with photos of big cats in the Masai Mara national park in Africa, images from the desert states in the USA and one or two nearer to home in France and Ireland. Three of our creative photographers showed images that had been captured in home studio set-ups.

Studying the photographs

In addition to the display of prints around the walls several photographers had other mounted prints for sale that were shown off in display racks adjacent to their prints and other members were displaying many wonderful images in the shape of greetings cards for sale. Quite a few of our club members helped to steward the event for the whole weekend and provided the refreshments to visitors. This enabled visitors to be able to chat to many of the photographers who had work on display.

Whilst looking at our exhibition, visitors were asked to try to pick their favourite image from all those on display, an almost impossible task. However, quite a number rose to the challenge and picked a photograph of Church Square in the snow by Tony Ham as their favourite, with an image entitled Summer Flowers by Melvin Smith as runner up.
