Ursula Nield, community manager for RNLI area 12 visited Rye Harbour Lifeboat Station recently to discuss the need for people with energy, drive, enthusiasm to join our fund-raisers: someone who can lead, work with and inspire a team. Could this be YOU?

Ursula explains, “Rye Harbour Lifeboat Station sits near the mouth of the river Rother, only a couple of miles away from the heart of Rye town centre. I love visiting the station, both because of the stunning scenery and the friendly welcome from local volunteers. The lifeboat attends dozens of rescues a year, on-call 24/7 to aid anyone in need. Despite being an essential emergency service, the RNLI’s existence relies entirely on donations, so the volunteers in our shop and on the fund-raising team are vital to keeping the station running.

“We need more volunteers who can spare a few hours a week in our gift shop or a few hours a month getting involved in our fund-raising events. These include things like our annual open day, our Christmas fair, and our active participation in fêtes and collections. At the end of summer our current fund-raising group leader is moving away from this rôle to focus on his other volunteer responsibilities at the station, so as well as looking for more volunteers to join the team, we are also looking for a candidate to replace him.

“The new group leader will get ample support from me and the current group, and the rôle could also be shared by a team of two or three people. If the prospect of helping organise and lead on events to raise funds to save lives at sea resonates with you, please get in touch with me at Ursula_nield@rnli.org.uk, 07890 041633 or apply for any of our roles here
