Chris Viner, local military historian, is to give two talks next week, both on different aspects of the life of Napoleon Bonaparte. The first is to members of the Winchelsea Historical Society, entitled Napoleon and Josephine. That takes place on Wednesday June 13 at New Hall, Winchelsea at 2pm.
The second talk will be given at Rye Museum in East Street on Thursday June 14 at 7:30pm, to which all are welcome. Entitled Napoleon and the Jews Chris Viner’s talks cast further light on the character of Napoleon, a man “who bestrode the world like a Colossus” in the early years of the 19th century.
Napoleon remains for us something of an enigma, in his successes and failures. He is a particular hero of Chris Viner, who runs the Soldiers of Rye shop in the High Street, where he produces models of legionnaires, warriors,  troops and individual soldiers for customers of all ages around the world. Chris is a popular and entertaining speaker who continues to research his subject. He brings a refreshing insight into some entrenched myths about Napoleon which will surprise and delight his listeners.
