Last Saturday, May 10 saw the annual fundraising plant and bric-a-brac sale for the Royal Marsden cancer trials at the Buttermarket in Rye, beneath the town hall.
The place was buzzing and there was a continuous stream of people all day. There was a marvellous array of plants and people were excited to find a bargain in the bric-a-brac.
Davida Turpin explains: “A few years ago I decided to organise a fundraising plant sale with bric-a-brac to raise funds for the Royal Marsden cancer trials programme. My husband had been diagnosed with cancer and had been on an immunotherapy trial at the Marsden which had saved his life. I really understood the importance of the work they do at the Marsden.

“Five years on and the fundraising sale has gone from strength to strength and has become a popular Rye event each May.
“Cancer touches the lives of so many people and their families and the trials programme is hugely important in finding new ways to treat cancer and to improve and save people’s lives. I would like to thank everyone who helps and supports me with fundraising and those who put their time and effort into making the event a success.
“I would also like to thank the mayor, Andy Stuart, and Jessica Neame at Rye Town Hall for all their help and support. So far I have raised £2,600 and with some more donations coming in I am hoping to increase the final amount.”

I must stress, despite photographic evidence to the contrary, I am not wearing a pair of Bet Lynch’s earrings!
Davida is there a way to contribute to your funds?
My daughter at 30 had the cancer diagnose and was referred to Marsden.
They were wonderful and after some gruelling treatment they managed to declare her cancer free.
The after care could not have been better
