Walk raises money for masks

Well known Rye resident and Rotarian Noel Varley (shown above in earlier times) recently completed a short sponsored walk to raise money for local causes but especially the Rye Food Bank. Whilst maintaining social distancing at all times, he walked 9 miles in and around the Rye and Winchelsea area, meeting fellow Rotarian Martin Owen in a field at the midway point.

With over £1,500 raised, through the generosity of local residents, monies have already been sent to the food bank, and he has also supplied face masks free of charge to the Rye Hospital, three local surgeries, St Bartholomew’s Court and the Street Pastors.

Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Club has been a regular donor in support of the Rye Food bank, along with Rye Mutual Aid and Jempson’s supermarket. With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, applications for food bank help are continuing to increase and will need ongoing support for some time ahead.

With Covid-19 still with us making safety and safe distancing a key element of everybody’s thoughts, fellow Rotarian Doug Rushbrooke has utilised his factory, staff and connections in China to produce and procure general purpose face masks and, when purchased by Rotarians, a percentage of the price will be donated to Rye & Winchelsea Rotary Club for use in supporting local causes, not least the food bank. In setting up this service, Doug has worked with the NHS to ensure there is no conflict with NHS surgical suppliers.

With people being furloughed money is tight for many families, but if you could spare a little, especially for the food bank it would be very much appreciated by those in need. If you would like to purchase face masks, then please use www.surgimasks.com and please, use the Rotary page if you are happy for a donation to be made.
