Rye Bowls Club (RBC) continues to move forward, since becoming independent of Rother District Council. Last week saw the reinstatement of the Ringo Cup, a fun challenge cup, not played in recent years. One of the clubs newer members, Paul Stocking, won this with 21 points, after a closely fought game last Wednesday.

The following evening saw the first social event, held at the clubhouse. A fish and chip supper, accompanied by a film from the club’s past and news on the current situation, on our contract with Rother District Council (RDC). Around thirty members and supporters enjoyed their time together, in the newly redecorated clubhouse.

As previously reported, RBC have been in protracted negotiations with Rother District Council, for a contract under which we shall continue to manage the club, over the coming years. All of the outstanding issues have now been resolved and we are awaiting Rother to countersign our Tenancy at Will and to pay over the promised grant funds, which will go towards some of the equipment we have had to purchase, for greens maintenance.

Mermaid League – the club fights its way back up the league and is currently second in the league table, on points, after four games.

Rye Annual Tournament – RBC’s annual tournament is being reinstated this year, and already 12 visiting clubs have signed up to play. Rye hopes to see a few more clubs join in their tournament, which previously had a very good reputation and at its peak attracted 24 clubs. This year’s event is to be held on Saturday, July 26.
