Our new series Three Degrees of Curiosity takes a different look at familiar faces in Rye. All the questions get three short answers.
This week it’s Councillor Dan Bradley. In May this year he was elected as a Rye councillor for Reform UK on both East Sussex County Council and Rother District Council. You can read more about what he’s up to on his Facebook page.
Dan Bradley over to you…
Three things that might surprise people about you
• I work with Ant Middleton.
• I suffer quite a lot with dyslexia.
• I’m actually someone who prefers getting things done behind the scenes rather than being in the spotlight.

Three moments that have shaped you
• Joining the services and taking on a leading role early on gave me the skill sets I use today.
• My childhood growing up, not having anything flash, not being able to afford much, if anything, gave me an understanding of how things are at a young age and the drive to achieve.
• Becoming a dad has enforced my belief in trying to make a better tomorrow for them.
Three words that describe you
• Committed.
• Practical.
• Approachable.
Three pieces of advice for someone wanting to be a councillor
• Listen first, the role is to represent, not assume.
• Be prepared to put in the time; it’s far more demanding than people realise.
• Focus on what you can do and the outcomes residents care about: results, not politics.

Three things that give you hope
• The next generation, especially seeing young people step up and lead.
• The strength of local communities when they come together.
• The fact that individuals can still make a real difference at a local level.
Three people you would invite to a dinner party (and why)
• Winston Churchill, for his leadership under pressure and perspective on resilience.
• Nelson Mandela, for his approach to unity and reconciliation.
• Field Marshal Montgomery, for his thinking and leadership in difficult circumstances.
Three favourite places to visit
• Rye and the surrounding coastline; it’s home and always reminds me why I serve. It’s odd as I do travel and I go to really nice places and I come back on the drive home bumping over all the potholes and yelling at them, I get home have a look around and I’m happy to be back.
• Areas around the Peak District – I moved to Derbyshire when I was around 10, and I do enjoy to go back and visit.
• We started a bit of a tradition when I moved back down this way, where over the summer holidays or the beginning of September we head down to Italy for a week to a holiday camp – it feels odd when I miss a year.
Three things you would take to a desert island
• A multi-tool practicality first!
• Peace and quiet.
• And I better say the wife (but that would knock out option 2).
Three favourite foods
• A good Sunday roast.
• British pub homemade burger.
• Steak pie.

Three things you would want people to remember you by
• That I was approachable and listened.
• That I made a positive difference, even in small ways.
- I may not have always got everything right, but I always tried my best, acted with the right intentions.
