Six local charities received donations from money raised by Rye and District Bonfire Society (RDBS) at an event on Wednesday 10 December.
The good causes celebrated during an evening at the Queen’s Head include: Rye Community Transport Service, FAIR – Friends Altogether in Rother, Rye Food Bank, Camber Community Lunches and Rye Heritage Centre.

Chairman James Foster, who handed over the cheques said, “It’s so good to be able to give something back to the local community who give us such tremendous support, especially during the festive season when life can be difficult for some.”
Rye Voluntary Services will also be receiving a donation.

Rye and District Bonfire Society spend all year fundraising and preparing for that one night in November when they literally set the town alight! Their free community event attracts over 10,000 people each year, with the average bucket collection being around the £4000 mark and as we become more of a cashless society, this could start to see a reduction year on year. As a way forward, this year, the bonfire society had QR posters at over 40 locations and businesses in town.

The crowd funding page is still active and donations to #keepryebonfireburning can be made using this link.
Meanwhile, after a brief break for Christmas, both fundraising and planning for Rye Bonfire 2026 will resume. As always, they are very appreciative of all help offered and received.
Merry Christmas from Rye and District Bonfire Society.
