On Saturday, all three of Rye’s teams won their fixtures. The 1st XI defeated top of the table Ifield by 5 wickets, to go 14 points clear at the top of Division 3 East of the Sussex County League. Ifield batted first and scored 209-9 off their 45 overs. Their innings was slow paced as Mahad Ahmad accumulated 111 runs, and at the back end of the innings when impetus was required, the new batsmen fell to the bowling of spinner Ben Clifton 6-52 and the pace of Ryan Dowdeswell 3-27, supported by Luke Payton’s great glove with 5 dismissals.

Rye set about the target with aplomb as James Hamilton 40 and Reuben Collingwood 30 put on 83, and runs continued to flow as Harry Smeed hit 38 and Jackson Woodcock 31, and Carl Mumba finished it off with 21 off 8 balls. A comfortable victory.

Rye welcome Glynde next week in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera, as they seek to ensure the position at the top of the league.

The 2nd XI recorded their first victory of the season as they won by two wickets over Laughton 1st XI. Rye made the perfect start, reducing Laughton to 0-2 as Kyle Scott 2-23 struck. Griffiths 60 led a fightback and Laughton were soon surging at more than 5 an over. Ellis Hatter with a brilliant run out, halted the surge, as did the bowling of 15 year old Joseph Kemsley with 3-36. Griffiths found support from Lee Gillman 28, but Martin Blincow 2-16 removed both of them as Laughton fell for 171.

Rye started well, as Ellis Hatter 29, Peter Thomson 27 and Fin Thomson 31 put Rye in a good position. However, Jamie Russell 3-30 and Lee Gillman 3-34 had Rye in trouble. Scott Balcomb with a hard hitting 50 not out, saw Rye over the victory line. Rye climbed to 7th in the league. Next Saturday they make the short journey to play Iden.

The 3rd XI had a thumping 108 run victory over Sidley 2nd XI. Rye batted first and wobbled at 11-4, as Mark Grandsen took 3-6. Reece Martin 30 and James Jury 29 put Rye back on track and Toby Channon 19 and James Archer 16 saw Rye to 155 in the 40th over. In reply Rye never left Sidley off the hook as they were bowled out for 47. David Jempson 3-16 and Alex Stone 3-22, removed the top order, before Johnny Broad took 4-2 to finish the innings. Rye 3rd XI entertain Willingdon 3rd XI next Saturday at Icklesham.
