Rye Bowls Club played Pett at Pett in an important home league match of four triples on Wednesday July 11. A close match saw Rye finishing as winners with 3 games to 1.
The greens were extremely fast due to the dry weather but had been well maintained by our contractors. Monty, Rosemarie and Don had a convincing win and Rye were the overall points winners.
The Rye teams comprised;
Team 1 – Monty Crouch (lead), Rosemarie Crouch (second), Don Williams (skip)
They won their match by 17 points to 11
Team 2 – Annette Bush (lead), Eileen Peck (second), and Carole Osborne (skip).
They won their match by 17 shots to 16
Team 3 – Mick Woods (lead) Sandra Romeo (second) and Margaret Everest (skip)
They won their match by 16 shots to 13
Team 4 – Phil Edmonds (lead), Tony Kember (second), Dave Harrison (skip)
They lost their match by 12 points to 14
Rye 62 shots – Pett 54 shots.
This was an excellent result for Rye and an enjoyable afternoon for all concerned
On Wednesday July 12 Rye were due to play Alexandra Park at home in a friendly match of four triples but unfortunately due to a mix-up in the bookings both clubs were waiting at their respective greens waiting for the other to arrive. Rye turned this opportunity into a friendly match for the members with tea and ‘biccies’ at half time!
The next home match will be on Wednesday July 18 against Beckley Bowls Club.This is an important Mermaid League match with Beckley third and Rye fourth in the league.
On Saturday July 28 Rye Bowls Club will host their annual tournament, one of the most popular in the region, with 24 teams from other clubs in East Sussex & Kent. This is an all-day event in which the local teams compete to win the coveted trophy and prize money. The teams are treated to lunch and refreshments throughout the day and are also invited to participate in the tombola, and various raffles.
Members of the public are welcome to come and watch and have tea with us.The event starts at 9:30am and ends at about 5pm with the prizegiving, anyone and everyone is welcome.
