Icklesham Casuals Football Club 1st team suffered a disappointing home defeat in a relegation battle against Ticehurst on Saturday going down 2-1. In an eventful game, Ticehurst reached half-time with a 1-0 lead through a goal from Dave Blundell. An incident in the 46th minute might have been a game-changer when a Ticehurst player was dismissed, but it was not to be as Leon Fisher eventually doubled the away side’s advantage. Icklesham tried their best but remained totally frustrated until Val Newman hit their last-minute consolation; which proved to be too little, too late.

The 2nd team also went down, 3-1 to third-placed Hawkhurst United II. After an even first half with lots of chances at both ends, the visitors edged ahead with two well taken goals from Jamie Young and Marco Palumbo. The Casuals then came back into the game after a 30-yard free-kick from Jon Fitton sailed into the top corner. But, in a good humoured match, it was Hawkhurst who finished the stronger, with a third goal near the end from Greg Daniel.

Icklesham’s veterans game with Peche Hill Select scheduled for Sunday morning was called off as Peche Hill were unable to raise a side.
